Coach Whitney Sturtz grew up in a hockey family. As a child, he played for the Des Moines Xplosion and Marshalltown Snipers. In 2012-2013 he played PIHA (Professional Inline Hockey Association) with the Des Moines Xpress.
After a couple years off, he passed his passion onto his two children. This also sparked his comeback to the sport. Whitney has since been playing with Labeda Leaf Ray in MIHA, PIHA, and TORHS. He was on the 2021 PIHA Western Conference Championship team.
He currently plays rec league at Skate South and was just announced as the Head Coach for the PIHA Team Leaf Ray.
